With each year, the start of February comes. It brings me back to 2016. Having Roslyn, only 6 weeks old, managing getting back to work after only 3 1/2 weeks off.

Having a parent that’s an addict is hard and not something I was sharing with many people at points in my life. It was something I just wanted to hide.

I try to hold onto the best memories I have, while not dwelling on the time we didn’t get. When I was younger I’d always tell everyone yea I don’t think my mom will be here for a while. Because I accepted her addiction and what the end result would be.

Never did I think I would tell her I was having a baby (Roslyn). Never did I think she’d make it that far. 6 weeks after having Roslyn, I had to make a difficult decision wether to go to Michigan with a little baby and say my goodbye.

That one icu nurse changed everything. “If it was me, and I was you, I’d come.” That evening we took the 14 hr drive. We arrive Sunday morning, my mom was on life support unresponsive. We stayed as long as we could. With out a place to stay and not wanting to be around people I’ve distanced myself from. We left, and made the 14 hr drive back home. 7am we walked into our apartment and collapsed from pure exhaustion.

It’s been 9 years since she’s passed. I miss her so much, but more then anything I’m so thankful that I have all these photos, at 17, the last time I saw my mom, I was given my baby book which she didn’t know my nanny had. My mom left it behind, and thankfully the neighbor called and said “I think you’ll want these”.

I’ve talked about @paige_heins if you’ve been in my chair! You know all about my hair bestie that I talk to everyday but we never met in person! We met thru a hair work/support group @stylistsoultribe.

Paige and I just clicked. We have literally talked EVERYDAY since we met on zoom about three years ago now 🤯. She was there when I told the group what we were going thru with ros and the alopecia.

Now Paige is going thru some health things of her own and has gotten some amazing wigs and a few happened to not be the right size. So she asked if ros would like what we referred to as a love box. And I said yes!

Well it arrived to day and let’s just say, she felt the love and that smile says it all!

It’s the ones in your village that make the biggest difference and we are so thankful and grateful for ours 💕

It’s finally time I take what I preach and use it myself!

In reality I’ll tell everyone to change! But truth be told, I hate change. I don’t know if it’s from moving so much as a kid or the unknown, cause both are scary.

But then often times, something will be the big push you need to get you going in the right direction. I noticed a little while back I wasn’t getting certain emails from my booking system, and thankfully I checked and noticed they had been acquired by another booking system.

Now the ease would have been to transfer to who took over that system but, it didn’t really speak to me or the ease for my clients or myself that I was also looking for. So looking I went, and my amazing estie (@waxingmoon__ ), uses this same system, so I myself have used it to book appointments and cash out, so first hand I know the ease of the system form a client side.

When I say booking is as easy as three clicks! It’s truly that easy! Great confirmation texts and even has a baby website 😎, so for my clients with future appointments I’m gonna warn you now, you will get confirmation text saying you booked your appointment.

This is ME transferring all the appointments and information!! Your pre appointment form will still be available as well!

I’m so excited to see how easy this is for all my guests and my self! If there are any issues along the way please feel free to reach out to me!

For me, that’s how I refill my cup, so I can give my all to those that come in and sit in my chair for their relaxing time!

Grief is weird and hard.

Last year I lost my soul babe. Oreo wasn’t who Christian and I agreed in originally. We had picked a different babe, but the day came.

When I went, I went to the wrong pet store first, when I got to the right one the babe Christian and I looked at on line was sick. So I went back to the first place just incase they had a babe.

The first kitty I held I picked thinking Christian would love him, but he didn’t like me. So I asked for the little fluffy one sleeping.

Edwina was her name. She put both little paws around my neck leaned in for what felt like a hug, she licked my cheek and sat back like I’m going with you right.

As I went to the car I called Christian he was over it and said do what ever you want.

Once we got to the car, Oreo broke out of her bag and slept on my lap the whole way home.

She was the absolute best and was alway by my side. It’s been weird not having her around and Fiona misses her the most I’m sure.

While we’ve added new animals, nothing will ever compare to the ones that have been with you thru your darkest times and your brighter times.

Our sweet baby Rae.

How has 6 years flown by that fast. It feels like just yesterday I was on my maternity leave, busting our butts to get the house ready. Painting and cleaning to all hours of the night to get back up and do it all again the next day.

Rae was the easiest baby. And more then ever do I wish I could go back and soak in those small baby days a little longer. My postpartum hit really hard after Rae, and thankfully Christian noticed and helped me thru that.

Rae is our designated cuddle buddy, Roslyn’s best friend, our constant reasons for laughter along with anger. She gives the best hugs and right when you need it. She’s one of the best people I know!

It’s a bittersweet moment as a mom. I truly love watching both of the ladies grow up to be these amazing women. But it definitely goes by way to fast.

So let’s shout it as loud as we can!

Last year we started our wedding day by catching the sunrise. While Christian floated in the ocean, I sat and enjoyed the moment and wrote my vows.

We got ready in the room together. But I was able to keep parts of the dress hidden. We grabbed our little cake along the way and off we went to the beach to get married.

Truly one of the best days of my life!

Golden hour at its finest!

Christian and I chose tunnels beach to get married. The beach is known as the ancestors beach. Which I didn’t know ahead of time. When I got in front if Christian I had made a little something for him. His abuela and abuelo had passed away shortly after Christian and I got back together and they meant the world to him. So I wanted to make sure he got to see them on our special day!

The wedding ceremony is very intentional in every aspect. Each prayer and moment.

🌊The first is washing your hands of the past and anything you don’t want to bring with you during your marriage. This water is sacred water of the island, that is only accessible by boat or plane.

🌸The Lei ceremony, this is to show your person you accept them, all of them that’s why it goes over your head and face. Then however you’d like to greet your person everyday is how you end the lei ceremony.

You share your rings and vows. You say a prayer while holding your rings over your heart then you place them on.

🥥Sharing the coconut, the coconut is life, you get meat, water, milk, and bowls out of the coconuts themself. Sharing this with your person is to symbolize that thru the marriage you’ll make sure to share life with them.

Your final prayer. We stood forehead to forehead, hand in hand, and you hold this moment and take in everything the sounds, smells and just the moment it self. And anytime your having a hard time it is said to return to this pose to remind you of what you promised to each other. Then the conch is blown your marriage is sealed with a kiss 😚

Even a year later these details are so strong in my memory. And when I say I don’t have a lot of those moments, truly all of my big moments have been tainted in some way.

EXCEPT our wedding day. And all my memories with Christian. He has always made me feel safe and protected. So for once my body doesn’t have to change or protect myself from a memory. I get to remember all of it for exactly how it was.

And for that, I’m forever grateful to share this life with you!

Golden hour at its finest!

Christian and I chose tunnels beach to get married. The beach is known as the ancestors beach. Which I didn’t know ahead of time. When I got in front if Christian I had made a little something for him. His abuela and abuelo had passed away shortly after Christian and I got back together and they meant the world to him. So I wanted to make sure he got to see them on our special day!

When we were younger I pushed hard to get engaged. Saved a ring as his computer background. Even almost tried to set up an appointment with a jeweler.
When we got back together, I said, I don’t want it unless you do. And we’d joke but otherwise I was okay and knew even if we didn’t get married how lucky was I to share my life with my person.

And really, I wanted the same last name as the girls. It’s something I’ve never had with my own mom.

Last year, we got a big storm right before Christmas and my dad had a medical emergency. So my emotions are everywhere. As Christian is trying to fix our sub-pump in the basement and I’m yelling at him to figure it out. He’s a plumber and if that water gets to the carpet we are done. Gifts ruined and so much more to deal with.

Little did I know that night he went and got my ring.
Roslyn knew and never spoke a word.

Now Christian always said he’d never do it on a holiday with fear of anything happening and then the day would always be a memory of that. So the night before New Year’s Eve we had a date night.

My hair wouldnt curl that day. Once we left the house and on our way small convo ensued. Mainly from me. And what about you ask… my sweaty arm pits and the new deodorant I had gotten and how it works but not the best.

When I looked over Christian looked like he wasn’t even paying attention or listen. But he was internally stressing cause the ring was behind his sear rather then in his pocket.

Christian brought me to where we had our first date when we started dating again. A restaurant he doesn’t like. We park kinda far from the door. And he gets out and goes into the passenger back seat and i ask what are you doing and he gently turns my face to the front. The door closes and the radio changed to our song (his doing) I panicked and locked my door. When I looked again Christian was there trying to open a door with a flood of emotions and tears.

I hoped out and he was down on one knee. I lost it didn’t even say yes at first. I said I made a tic tok 87 days ago and it said you were gonna propose today. He goes idk what tic tok is 😂

One of the best moments was saying yes!

We did a bunch of research to make sure we picked the island that we truly could get the most out of!

We wanted less people and more nature. We loved going from the north end of the island and tunnels beach all the way down to the south and west side of the island to reach the Waimea canyons.

It’s crazy how fast a year can go by.

Last year Christian and I were making our way to Hawaii! Now the funny thing is, hawaii was a joke (originally).

When trying to decide where we wanted to elope, I said to Christian “you’d never go to hawaii” and he said “why not”. That was January last year! From that point on, i would “fake” book the trip over and over until I spoke the whole thing into existence.

And yet, one thought I had which I didn’t share with anyone ended up happening. Sometimes you just know. So, we had a 7hr layover in LA. And a random thought I had was, what if we fly and at our connection we can’t get on. Like for whatever reason they say I’m so sorry but you can’t go…. And when I say I’m not even kidding

IT HAPPENED!

Shortly after I figured out why I was hearing America the beautiful mixed in with lady Gaga, mix in Taylor swift and continue this odd music choice. There was an airport store that we sat across from that was half a normal Hudson news and an America the beautiful type store 😅

Finally the airport opened and We went to get coffees which was like a 15 min walk to and from, when I go to check us in, the agent told me I’m sorry I don’t see you, as my 5ft self is juggling a suit bag and my wedding dress bag along with a carry-on, while Christian is running back with his coffee and the agent quickly fixed whatever went wrong and again we were on the second leg of our trip.

Our only souvenir from cali, is Christian’s sweatshirt and some really cool coast shots I got from the window!

And to think that was the beginning of the best adventure I could have ever imagined going on!

Four years ago, I was waiting for state board to come and approve the suite to open.

A month of preparing, getting lists of items needed, ordering the sink and station chair, slowly each week looking for the next item needed to finish up the suite. To having the sink delivered the day before inspection, Christian and his coworker staying til 11pm to set up and hook it up for me to have in the morning.

I arrived early to double check and make sure I was good. And then I looked out the window and there was the state inspector 20 min early, I broke down.

A few deep breaths later. And I was handed my approval for the suite!

The last four years have flown by, truly. And honestly, I never thought my life could have gotten any better then it already was!

I’ve met so many new guests in the my suite, reconnected with fellow classmates and have grown more alone then I even knew possible.

I’ve been able to be the mom I’ve always wanted to be, and the hairdresser I’ve dreamt of becoming.

Tomorrow I take the day, to celebrate, reflect, and live in the moment of the accomplishments made over the last four years.

But I can’t have my day with out you! You are the reason why I’ve been able to do this for 16 years 🥹, I love my job, which never feels like work. I make connections with each and everyone of my guests. The advice, continued support, laughs and even those moments when mistakes happen, thank you.

Thank you for sticking by me, making the drives out and always supporting me.
